Thali ("we," "us," or "our") is dedicated to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit or use our mobile application and web application (collectively, the "Service").

Our primary vision is to solve hyperlocal restaurant invisibility by helping you discover local hidden gems, neighborhood dhabas, and rooftop cafes. Please read this policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the Service.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information about you in a variety of ways depending on your role (Customer or Restaurant Owner) and interactions with the Service.

A. Personal Information You Provide

When you register for an account using Firebase Authentication, we collect:

  • Phone Number: Required for secure login verification via Phone OTP.
  • Profile Details: Your display name, profile picture, and role selection (Customer or Restaurant Owner).
  • Restaurant Onboarding Information: For Restaurant Owners, we collect restaurant name, phone number, address, and coordinates during onboarding.

B. Geolocation Data

With your permission, we access your device's live GPS location to display nearby restaurants within a ~5km radius. If GPS is unavailable or permission is denied, we fall back to a saved locality or standard Hyderabad coordinates.

C. App Usage & Interactive Actions

To provide a personalized discovery experience, we store the following data linked to your user account:

  • Restaurants you choose to follow (to send you menu and offer updates).
  • Bookmarks and custom lists of dishes you save (e.g., "Date night", "Budget eats").
  • Dish alerts you set (for persistent or one-time alerts on specific dish names).
  • In-app notification feeds and preferences.

D. Reviews & Photos

When you scan an in-store QR code and submit a review, we collect your rating, written text review, and optional photos. Since reviews are verified via QR code scans, your display name and follower count will be associated with the review and visible to other users.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to operate and improve the Thali discovery experience:

  • To show you nearby restaurants and filter results by cuisine, vibe, and availability.
  • To send you immediate notifications (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) when followed restaurants post new offers or daily specials, or when your dish alerts trigger.
  • For communications related to your account (such as OTP logins and admin updates) via SMS or WhatsApp, using secure third-party communication providers.
  • To compile anonymous analytics for Restaurant Owners, including follower counts and profile reach.
  • To process Premium tier subscription payments.
  • To verify review authenticity and enforce our anti-spam guidelines.

Important: Zero Delivery Data

Because Thali is strictly a discovery service, we never collect delivery addresses, physical tracking paths, or checkout delivery details.

3. Storage, Security & Sharing

Your data is stored securely in Firebase (Firebase Auth, Cloud Firestore, and Firebase Storage) located in regional cloud data centers. We implement strict Firebase Security Rules to prevent unauthorized read or write operations.

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We only share information with third-party service providers (such as notification routers and payment processors) to the extent necessary to perform their services for us.

4. Your Controls & Account Deletion

You have full control over your data within the Service:

  • Notification Settings: You can unsubscribe from followed restaurant updates and disable specific dish alerts at any time.
  • Content Management: You can delete reviews, bookmarks, and list selections directly from your profile dashboard.
  • Account Deletion: If you wish to delete your Thali account and all associated personal data permanently, please contact our support team at thehustler.dev@gmail.com or trigger the delete account button in your profile settings.
